Vinyl (HTV) print by Stoff3 on a nylon rain jacket without membrane – stretchy heat transfer vinyl

Vinyl printing (HTV)

Stretchy · Robust · Precise

In vinyl printing, a special heat transfer vinyl is precisely cut on the cutting plotter and then permanently applied to the garment with a heat press. The result is a smooth, slightly glossy surface — perfect for logos, lettering and geometric designs. The absolute classic: back numbers and player names — more on our jersey printing & flocking page.

  • Special vinyl film is precisely cut on a cutting plotter
  • The excess film is removed — "weeding", as it’s called in the trade
  • Applied to the garment with a heat press
  • Stretchy — ideal for elastic fabrics and sportswear
  • Wash-resistant and durable with proper care
  • Single or multi-colour (each colour = its own vinyl layer)
  • No colour gradients possible (vector artwork preferred)

Flock printing in Kassel, Germany – velvety flock finish by Stoff3

Flock printing

Velvety · Refined · Three-dimensional

In flock printing — also known as flockingshort textile fibres are applied to an adhesive-coated film. The result is a velvety, three-dimensional texture that stands out from the fabric and looks especially premium. Flocking used to be an elaborate process involving screens, stencils and adhesive. Today we use modern flock films with a built-in adhesive layer and a heat press.

  • Short textile fibres (flock) applied to an adhesive layer
  • Creates a velvety, three-dimensional texture
  • Especially refined and premium to the touch
  • Ideal for lettering, logos and geometric shapes
  • Heat-resistant and washfast like vinyl (HTV)
  • Looks particularly striking in the light thanks to its reflection

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

About vinyl and flock printing, materials, costs and file formats.

Which file format do you need for vinyl and flock printing?
We prefer vector files in .SVG or .AI format. Since the cutting plotter cuts along the outlines, all elements must be vectorised. High-resolution .PNG files (at least 300 DPI) can also be prepared by us, but .SVG is recommended.
On which materials do vinyl and flock printing work?
Suitable materials are cotton, polyester and blends (poly-cotton mixes) as well as leather, PVC, cardboard and felt, provided the material is heat-resistant to at least 160 °C. Most common t-shirts, hoodies and workwear are perfectly suitable.
Which materials are not suitable?
Not suitable are coated textiles (e.g. rain jackets with a membrane), silk and wool — these materials cannot handle the required heat pressing at 160–180 °C without damage. Uncoated nylon rain jackets without a membrane (like the ones in our example photos), on the other hand, can be decorated without any problems. If in doubt, just ask — we’re happy to take a look.
Can I create colour gradients with vinyl printing?
No. Both vinyl (HTV) and flock printing are processes for solid single-colour design areas. Each colour has to be applied separately as its own layer. For photorealistic designs or colour gradients we recommend DTF printing.
How much do vinyl and flock printing cost?
Prices vary depending on design size, number of colours and quantity. Vinyl printing is usually slightly cheaper than flock printing. Send us your project — we’ll prepare an individual quote within 24 hours.
How washfast are the prints really?
With proper care (wash inside out, max. 40–60 °C, no tumble dryer, don’t iron directly on the print), vinyl and flock prints last for many years. We exclusively use high-quality transfer films from professional suppliers.
